Nev. Tourism Commission Won't Fight Room Tax Issue

Updated:

The Nevada Tourism Commission says it doesn't think it can fight travel Web sites over how much they pay in room taxes.

But the commission says others in state government should consider the issue.

The commission on Tuesday said that it was not within the purview of the board to consider whether sites should pay for rooms based on prices customers pay or wholesale prices.

Commissioner Eric Bello, an executive with Las Vegas Sands Corp. raised the issue in June and said the money could be an easy revenue source.

But Bello said Tuesday that the fight is not one for the commission.
