Nevada Gaming Revenues Drop 9.3 Percent

Updated:

Nevada state gambling regulators say casinos in the state won $847 million from gamblers in August, a 9.3 percent decrease compared with the same month in 2008.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board said Thursday that monthly revenue for the first two months of the fiscal year is down nearly 11 percent compared with last year.

The August figures mark the 20th straight month of year-over-year declines for Nevada casinos, which have suffered as economic woes have kept many from traveling and gambling. Regulators say the state collected $49.6 million in taxes based on the August revenues, a 9 percent decrease from the same month one year ago.

Revenue dropped nearly 21 percent in Washoe County in August, more sharply than in other parts of the state.
