Las Vegas Had the Nation's Highest Foreclosure Rate in 2009

Las Vegas had the nation's highest foreclosure rate among metropolitan areas in 2009.

RealtyTrac reports more than 12 percent of the valley's housing units were in some stage of the foreclosure process. That is five times the national average. 94,862 Las Vegas properties reported foreclosure filings or one in every eight households.

Cape Coral, Florida had the nation's second highest foreclosure rate. Three cities in California (Merced, Riverside and Stockton) rounded out the top five. Burlington, Vermont had the nation's lowest foreclosure rate.
