Posted: Updated:

Nevada had the nation's highest foreclosure rate in January. It is the 37th straight month Nevada led the nation.

RealtyTrac reports 11,854 Nevada households were in some stage of foreclosure last month. That is a rate of one out of every 95 households and more than four times the national average. That number is up 0.68 percent from December, but down 17.93 percent from January 2009.

Las Vegas documented the nation's highest foreclosure rate among metropolitan areas, despite a near two percent drop in foreclosures from December and a decline of 21 percent from last year. One in every 82 Las Vegas households was in some stage of foreclosure last month.

Phoenix, Arizona; Modesto, California; Stockton, California; and Riverside, California rounded out the top five.
