Nevada Leads Nation in Foreclosures in April

Posted: Updated:

Nevada is once again the nation's worst state for foreclosures. RealtyTrac reports Nevada led the nation in foreclosure activity in April. It is the 40th straight month Nevada had that distinction.

16,217 Nevada homes were in some stage of foreclosure in April. That equates to one in every 69 households. Foreclosure activity in Nevada was up 10% from March, but down less than one percent from last year. Bank repossessions increased 57% from March.

Las Vegas also had the nation's highest foreclosure rate among metropolitan areas. One in every 60 valley homes were in the foreclosure process, despite a three percent decrease in foreclosure activity from April 2009.

The Reno/Sparks metropolitan area was the only one in the top ten foreclosure markets to record a year-to-year increase in foreclosure activity.
