Despite Decline, Nevada Leads Nation in Foreclosures in May

Posted: Updated:

Despite a drop in foreclosure activity, Nevada posted the nation's highest foreclosure rate in May. This is the 41st straight month the Silver State led the nation.

RealtyTrac reports 14,346 Nevada properties were in some stage of foreclosure last month. That is a rate of one out of every 79 Nevada households. The May numbers represent a drop of 11.5% from April and a decline of 16.4% from 2009. Nevada's foreclosure rate was more than five times the national average.

Las Vegas also led the nation in foreclosure activity among metropolitan areas, despite seeing its foreclosure rate drop nearly 18% from last year.
