LAS VEGGAS -- One day after the Bureau of Land Management announced 34 horses died in their latest roundup, they are now asking for your input on their scheduled roundups for next year.
They plan to gather more than 700 horses out of three different management areas, which include the Eagle, Chokecherry, and Mt. Elinore Herd Management Areas. The proposed gather is scheduled to begin in January 2011.
Of the horses remaining on the range, BLM would conduct fertility control measures on mares or adjust the sex ratios of the gathered animals to be returned to the land to 60-percent male and 40-percent female ratios.
