LAS VEGAS -- Governor-Elect Brian Sandoval is making the final tweaks to his budget and preparations for his inauguration on Monday. On Wednesday, he sat down with reporters and talked about what he sees ahead.
Sandoval knows he has to make it through this budget crisis. But he wants to do it in a slightly different way than outgoing Governor Jim Gibbons. He says he wants open dialogue with agencies, businesses and even other states.
Sandoval spoke to the media well past his planned half-hour. While he revealed little about the budget which he'll present next week, he was frank about turning the page on the sometimes closed nature of the Gibbons administration.
Sandoval did say he will not cut the personal care attendants funding, leaving hope for few drastic cuts to health and human services issues. He was clear however, he will continue to be anti-tax and little will sway him to change.
"I think in a state where we lead the country in unemployment, we lead the country in foreclosures, in bankruptcies, where Nevada families and where Nevada businesses are struggling, that raising taxes would be the worst thing that we could do," said Governor-Elect Brian Sandoval, Nevada.
Sandoval has already met with a number of business leaders and the largest state education superintendents. He will meet with the mayors and the democratic leadership right after he is sworn in.
The one person Sandoval has not met with is Governor Gibbons. Sandoval said that's because of Gibbons' horse accident.
8 News NOW will have crews in Carson City for the inauguration on Monday.
