New Nevada Laws in 2011

Posted: Updated:

CARSON CITY -- Parents of children with autism will have more access to screening and treatment under a new Nevada law that takes effect Jan. 1.

The law passed by the 2009 Legislature and signed by Gov. Jim Gibbons requires health insurers to provide coverage for autism disorders up to a cap of $36,000 a year. Another law that begins New Year's Day requires home sellers, at the request of a prospective buyer, to provide an energy audit or a year's worth of utility bills as a way to gauge the property's energy efficiency.

Military children also will have an easier time transferring between schools when their parents are forced to move between states while on assignment. Nevada lawmakers last year adopted the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children.
