Posted: Updated:

As the new session of Congress gets underway, it was swearing in day for Nevada's senior senator and newest representative.

Republican Representative Dr. Joe Heck was sworn in. His defeat of Democrat Dina Titus was one of the seats that swung control of the U.S. House. Heck has been appointed to serve on the House Intelligence Committee, the Homeland Security Committee and the Education and Workforce Committee.

Also being sworn in today was Senator and Majority Leader Harry Reid. This is his fifth term which he won by beating back a tough challenge from Sharron Angle.

Thirteen new senators were sworn in  by Vice President Joe Biden. The Democrats still hold the majority in the Senate but by a slimmer 53 to 47 margin.
