CARSON CITY -- Nevada casinos have won $860 million in July and posted a 3.7 percent gain compared to the same month last year as the state's biggest gambling centers showed small improvements from a year ago.
The Nevada Gaming Control Board reports Monday that the Las Vegas Strip posted a modest 1.6 percent gain over last year with $469 million in winnings. Reno casinos brought in $51 million or0.9 percent more than last July.
South Lake Tahoe casinos won $30 million in July to bring in 25 percent more than a year ago. Downtown Las Vegas gained 10 percent. The $48.1 million collected in taxes was a drop of 3.6 percent. Casino taxes account for about a third of state general fund revenues.
