Former chair of the Ways and Means Committee Morse Arberry plead guilty to one misdemeanor today, reducing his charges from felonies.
The charge was changed to "fraudulent appropriation of money."
By pleading guilty, former Assemblyman Arberry will get a six-month suspended sentence instead of jail time. But Arberry must pay over $121,000 in restitution with minimum payments of $100 a month for the next year or he will go to jail.
The case will remain open for a year and he must pay a $1,000 fine.
Arberry had been accused of putting thousands of dollars in campaign donations into his own personal accounts.
The charges stemmed from making false statements on campaign disclosure documents by diverting the funds.
The state and defense attorneys had been working on the deal for some time.
The I-Team had investigated a string of misconduct by Arberry for years. Arberry avoiding paying nearly $40,000 in unpaid property taxes and fines from multiple homes he owns across the Valley.
Arberry also faced ethics issues after resigning from the legislature specifically to take a lobbying job.
