LAS VEGAS -- According to the American Cancer Society, more than 1.5 million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer this year.
Now a Las Vegas chef is hoping to curb that number by helping people live and eat better. Pete Giohne has just launched cancercuisine.com.
"It's about making simple changes like switching from soda to water," said Ghione.
Thirty-two-year-old old Pete Ghione has been cooking half his life. He has worked in small restaurants and major casinos.
Along the way, he's learned that food can be deadly.
"When I used to feed 16 thousand people a day, nutrition was not the top of my list."
But that has changed as he leaves the restaurant scene behind to launch a new cancer fighting website.
"We eat three to five meals a day that's three to five opportunities to improve our health," he said.
Ghione introduced his new website to hundreds of Clark County teachers Monday morning.
He says making simple changes with ingredients listed on the site, from tomato's to turmeric, can help with everything from lowering stress to preventing diseases.
"My father has Type II diabetes, both have high blood pressure. It's there in the family and something I need to take care of," said teacher Melissa Bushee.
"If you are receptive to change and you are in that mode then the Internet is a great way to start," said teacher Ed Jackson.
Ghione's mother, Carol, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer two years ago."I needed a way to reach my own mother." This is her second battle with cancer. She successfully beat breast cancer 14 years ago.
Ghione wanted a way to help his mother and others who need to eat healthy.
"It's an amazing feeling, the reward is a thousand percent bigger than any paycheck I can get on the Strip."
