Las Vegas Among Nation's Trashiest Spring Break Cities

LAS VEGAS - With booze, gambling, and strip clubs, Las Vegas is probably the only city in America that can get away with being a popular Spring Break destination without a beach.

"We have some of the best pools in the world, so you know when you compare our pools to some of the beaches around, I think it's really not a comparison as far as the amenities that we offer," said Chris Hoag with travel site Tripres.com.

Not only is Las Vegas becoming more popular for Spring Break, it's also becoming trashier. In fact, Coed Magazine puts Las Vegas at the top of its Trashiest Spring Break Destinations list

Hoag welcomes the ranking.

"Any publicity is good publicity. So, we might be on the trashy list, but I think it still puts that seed in your head that you know Vegas is a great Spring Break destination," he said. "I think Vegas is a unique market, because you kind of cover all the tiers from the budget trashy level all the way up to the premium five star."

Coed Magazine considered several features that could make a place trashy, including strip clubs, liquor stores, and tattoo parlors.

Chrome Gypsy Tattoo is banking on a number of college students wanting to go home from Las Vegas with permanent souvenirs in the form of new ink.

"Spring Break's kinda' the big boom as far as like getting our season rolling," said Chrome Gypsy owner Cleen Rock One. "It's like the liquid courage thing. You know, like people are out of their environment, and so wound up, and they let loose a little bit and Vegas is the place to do it."

Las Vegas scored major points for hosting MTV's Spring Break and for having rooms at rates college students can afford.

"We've seen in years past where you have inclusion of maybe some drink coupons or discounted show tickets, things of that nature," Hoag said.

Ten cities made the list. Key West, Florida is the runner up. South Padre Island, Texas takes third. The tenth trashiest Spring Break destination is San Diego.
