HENDERSON, Nev. -- Henderson's police chief resigned Thursday after her job was called into question after waiting more than a year to tell city council members of a police beating.

Police Chief Jutta Chambers is out and a new city manager will now have to pick a permanent replacement. Deputy Chief Jim White will fill the top spot while a replacement is found.

It all comes down to an October 2010 police beating caught on camera. Adam Greene was pulled out of his car when he was mistaken for a drunk driver. After he was pulled out of the car, he was kicked by a Henderson Police sergeant.

It turns out, Greene wasn't resisting. He was in diabetic shock. The police department arranged a $159,000 settlement for Greene.

The council says they were "concerned" they weren't told of the beating for more than year after it happened.

"I had learned of the incident a couple of weeks ago. I didn't see the film until the day of City Council when the settlement agreement was on our agenda," said Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen.

Chambers told her executive staff she would step down this morning. Her resignation is effective at the end of the month.

Chambers was Henderson's first female police officer. She had been police chief since 2008.

Henderson's mayor says he wants the city's residents to know that use of force incidents went down 30 percent in 2011 compared to 2010. During that time, Henderson Police also installed video cameras in all their police cars.
