LAS VEGAS -- AAA says the average price of a gallon of gas is up 10 cents from a month ago. The average price for a gallon of gas in southern Nevada is now $3.48. That is the 15th highest average price in the nation.
The rising gas prices are fueling a rise in sales of hybrid vehicles. The general manager at Desert Toyota on Sahara Avenue and Jones Boulevard says sales of hybrid vehicles have grown 10 percent in just the past month. He says his dealership sold six hybrids in just two days.
Greg Sladek bought a hybrid Toyota Prius because he is worried about gas prices going above $4 a gallon.
"You put $30 to fill the tank and it goes 400 miles on one tank! So, I could drive to California and back on almost one tank of gas," Sladek said.
There is another incentive for people to buy hybrids. In some cases, hybrid buyers can get up to $2,000 in federal income tax credit and a 10 percent reduction in insurance.
