Seventy non-violent inmates have been released from the North Las Vegas Jail after dozens of workers called in sick over the weekend. Because of sick calls, jail workers failed to cover 49 shifts over the span of three days, causing significant problems staffing the facility.More>>
Several organizations are meeting in Las Vegas to discuss expanding wild horse adoptions.
As of now, officials are spending $20 million per year holding animals in the BLM Wild Horse Program. Officials say it's a huge expense and in order to cut down, they need to increase the number of horses that get adopted.
Don Glenn, BLM Wild Horse & Burrow Program said, "Five to six thousand right now, if we can increase it even by a thousand animals per year it would be a huge benefit to us."
"The problem is it is expensive to maintain them in the long-term holding facilities. Our focus here in our foundation is to devise ways to increase the adoption process," says John Falen, a Northern Nevada rancher.
No decisions were made at Thursday's meeting.
The goal was to try and drum up new ideas. Another meeting is scheduled in Las Vegas next week.
