Nevada Democrats outpaced Republicans in new voter registrations leading up to the state primary.

Some wild horse advocates say they are outraged by video showing the Bureau of Land Management workers kicking burros in the head. The video is from this week's roundup near Cold Creek and Red Rock Canyon in the Spring Mountains.

Laurie Howard with America Wild Horse Advocates says the video shows the burros being treated inhumanely. "If yesterday is any example of how they were treated, once again they have lost the trust that the public has given them and I think they should be held accountable."

The BLM says less than one percent of the horses they gather die during the process.

Wild horse advocates filed an appeal to stop the gather Thursday saying the government incorrectly counted the number of horses and is just removing them instead of managing them.

Despite the appeal, the gather is continuing through the next week.

(Jan. 4) -- The Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest service started rounding up wild horses and burros from the Spring Mountains Wednesday. The government says it's necessary because there are too many animals and not enough food.

Already 125 wild burros have been captured, but animal activists hope to put a stop to the roundup.

Late Thursday afternoon, lawyers for wild horse advocates asked a federal judge to put an end to the current roundup. A similar request was rejected by Federal Court Judge Kent Dawson last week.

Lawyer John Cereso filed documents around 4 p.m. Thursday, which ask for an emergency injunction to prevent the roundup from moving forward.

The motions allege the BLM has failed to prove its case that a massive roundup is even necessary and that the agency is violating federal law by using bogus information to justify its actions.

The wild horse advocate groups believe BLM is determines to eliminate wild horses from the open range.
