DARREN MILLER
METEOROLOGIST

Send an email to Darren.

Darren Miller is the 8 News NOW meteorologist for weekday newscasts at 4, 4:30, 5, 6 and 11 p.m.

A native of Southern California, Darren began his career in Santa Barbara at KEYT ABC-3, and then became the weekend weather anchor at KESQ-3 in Palm Springs. Seeking the challenge of a fast-changing weather market, he moved across the country to WNCN-NBC17 in Raleigh, North Carolina -- living in "hurricane alley" is an exciting proposition for a meteorologist! In 2003 he became the weather anchor for the "Fox Morning Show" at WXIN in Indianapolis, Indiana and for four and a half years forecasted the frigid lake-effect winters that crippled the city with ice and snow for weeks at a time.

While at WXIN Darren created and hosted "Weather Kids," an outreach program designed to educate and engage elementary-age children. With his good-humored nature, and "portable weather board" in hand, he entertained Indianapolis students with the fun of forecasting. Footage of the day's event aired on WXIN in the evening and "Weather Kids" became a hit as students watched themselves on television, sharing with family and friends what they learned about weather from their local meteorologist -- and new friend - Darren!

At the close of 2008, Darren was ready for a warmer climate. He jumped at the invitation to join 8 News NOW in Las Vegas and in January was thrilled to become part of its stellar news team. Ask what excites him most about his new home in the Valley and Darren will tell you quite simply, "I LOVE the heat! I can't wait for a hot desert summer. One thing I know for sure, I won't miss the mid-west's cold and snow."

Darren was raised in the beautiful Orange County community of Mission Viejo. His mother, two sisters and brother all currently reside in the L.A. area. He is a huge sports fan -- the Lakers are his team, though his loyalty is sometimes challenged by his cousin Jared, a forward for the Phoenix Suns. He enjoys traveling and has spent time in Europe, South America and South East Asia. He also appreciates fine dining and loves that Las Vegas' incredible collection of world re-known eateries is conveniently located in his new backyard!

Above all, he looks forward to exploring the Valley and to getting personally acquainted with its residents. "I'm inspired by the genuine friendliness of the people of Las Vegas and its surrounding communities.  It's an honor to join Las Vegas' number one news team and I'm eager to continue the 8 News Now tradition as your first choice for weather information."

Darren holds a degree in speech communications from California State University, Los Angeles. He has completed advanced meteorology studies at Mississippi State University and received his AMS seal in 2010. He is a member of the National Weather Association, the American Meteorology Association, and the National Association of Black Journalists.
